We are looking for a Head of Food Science with a strong interest and experience in dairy proteins and taking novel food ingredients from applied research to commercialization. Job description:

  • Lead the cheese development activities with our microbially produced milk proteins
  • Leading the Food Science team
  • Create vegan cheese prototypes and characterize the chemical, physical and sensory properties
  • Managing the designed experiments in the lab/food kitchen, followed by data collection, data analysis and data interpretation
  • Coordinate and manage external research collaborations
  • Contribute to IP generation
  • Collaborate with the different departments (upstream and downstream processing) from a food and functionality perspective
  • Collaborate with our cheese expert consultants, as well as our external partners

 

Your profile:

  • Academic degree in Food Science or Food (Bio)technology
  • Min. 5 years experience in the field of food proteins
  • A good knowledge of (novel) food ingredients and their functionality (you know all about taste and texture!)
  • An analytical mindset and the ability to translate research data into product development
  • Ability to think innovatively
  • A good team motivator and willing to take initiative to get projects accomplished
  • Flexible within a start-up environment, able to take on a variety of tasks
  • Great communication, organization and collaborative skills

 

It’s a plus, if you have:

  • Hands-on experience with developing novel products, and processes in dairy and/or alt-dairy
  • Experience in cheese manufacturing (traditional and/or vegan)
  • Hands-on experience with texture analysis, rheology, and emulsification techniques
  • Familiarity with novel food regulations

The Downstream Processing team at Those Vegan Cowboys is responsible for the purification and characterization of native and recombinantly produced milk proteins. We develop DSP processes, study protein formulation and use our purified proteins in functional studies and cheese making.

 

We are looking for a Research Associate with a strong interest and experience in protein purification and analysis.

The successful candidate should be a creative and highly self-motivated personthat enjoys challenges in protein purification with the aim to provide high quality material for characterization and cheese making. The team closely interacts with other disciplines within the company (e.g. Molecular Biology and Fermentation).

 

Job description:

•Perform protein purifications, using different types of column chromatography (ion exchange, HIC, gel filtration ….), membrane filtration, precipitation techniques etc.

•Perform different filtration, buffer exchange and concentration techniques (e.g. micro-filtration, ultrafiltration, depth filtration)

•Evaluate each step in the purification process (yield, protein integrity and purity) using different protein analysis tools such as SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, ELISA, analytical HPLC, …

•Assist in the development of new analytical tools to support all teams

•Execute the designed experiments in the lab/pilot, followed by data collection, data analysis and datainterpretation.

•Execute all experiments according to the in-house established standard operating procedures.

•Participate in revision of existing and writing of new standard operating procedures.

•Collaborate with and help colleagues within the team for execution of experiments.

•Responsible for individual safety and that of your colleagues by following the correct procedures and policies.

•Communicate with internal stakeholders through meetings and clearly written emails, reports and presentations.

 

Your profile:

Vacancy: Molecular Biology – Strain Engineering

The Molecular Biology team is looking for a Research Associate with experience in recombinant DNA technology and microbial strain engineering. We are specifically looking for an energetic, creative, and highly self-motivated person that enjoys challenges in microbial strain development with the purpose of heterologous protein expression.

The successful candidate will interact closely with his/her team members and with other disciplines within the company (e.g. the Fermentation team and the Downstream Processing team). Job description:

• In silico design of DNA/plasmid constructs and execution of the lab-based recombinant DNA work (standard restriction enzyme cloning, Gibson cloning, Golden Gate cloning, …)

• Strain engineering/transformation of yeast, filamentous fungi, bacterial systems.

• Evaluate generated strains via standard techniques such as PCR and (RT)-qPCR analysis, Southern blot, …

• Evaluate protein expression potential of engineered strains via small-scale cultivation, followed by protein detection methods such as gel-based separation (e.g. SDS-PAGE), Western blot, ELISA, …

• Execute the designed experiments in the lab, followed by data collection, data analysis and data interpretation.

• Execute all experiments according to the in-house established standard operating procedures.

• Experience with heterologous protein expression in microbial systems is a plus.

For the expansion of the Fermentation team, Those Vegan Cowboys is looking for a Research Associate, who will focus on microbial fermentation process development and optimization to produce recombinant proteins. We are specifically looking for an energetic, creative, and highly self-motivated individual that enjoys challenges in fermentation development. He/she will interact closely with the other disciplines in the group (e.g. Molecular Biology and Downstream Processing).

 

Job description:

  • Conduct fermentation research using shake flasks and bioreactors to improve overall yield of several recombinant proteins of various yeast and fungal systems (in divers bioreactor systems: Sartorius Bplus, and C-DCU, DASGIP and Infors).
  • Perform product recovery experiments using various unit operations.
  • Sample collection and analysis: Biomass determination and protein analysis using SDS-PAGE, Western blot and Bradford assay.
  • Communicate through team meeting presentations and written reports.
  • Maintain lab equipment and bioreactors.
  • Maintain Electronic lab notebooks, write reports and SOPs.

 

Your profile:

  • Master degree, or Bachelor with relevant working experience.
  • Experience with microbial fermentation; experience with fungal expression systems is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with lab scale fermenter systems (DASGIP, Sartorius Bplus, Sartorius C-DCU fermenters).

Job description:

· Implement results from the downstream research program into process development and optimization of downstream recovery and purification, using a broad range of relevant unit operations and separations technologies.

· Use your engineering skills for troubleshooting, process modelling and design of downstream processes from lab scale to pilot and production scale.

· Own complex projects and individual experiments while also working in collaboration with upstream (USP) and downstream processing (DSP) team members.
